Mother Board Asus
A8N32-SLI Deluxe
Video Card Asus
EN8800 GTX 768
Memory Corsair
2 x 1 Gig matched Platinum
Processor AMD
AMD 64 FX-57 939 2.8
Windows XP SP2 Media Ed.
My Score on 3Dmark 06: 5400
My score with my Prior card Asus 7900 GTX 512: 4612
Can some one please tell me if this is a correct benchmark or if something is wrong with the card? From what I have read I should be benching around 10k with this rig and the new 8800 card. Also the nTune I downloaded (international, the only one that will DL from NVIDIA.) will not launch, then locks up the system. All old drivers were removed prior to the installing of the new drivers. I am at a loss and completely disappointed with the results and the amount of money I have placed into this machine. Please help…
Thanks.
BTW this cat has about the same rig as I do and he is benching 2k higher....

*drool* Nice machine! Unfortunately I have very limited knowledge in benchmarks or hardware issues. I just use computers and hope they work most of the time.

Ouch!
EN8800 GTX 768 is going to hurt for a while yet with Vanguard.
Not sure who's to blame, Sigil, Microsoft or Nvidia but there's some major issues with the 8800 cards. Not just with Vanguard and as Sigil had full support from Mickeysoft for a while, I'm blaming Nvidia on this one.
I've got the GeForce 7900 GTX 512 PCI-E myself and I'm getting decent performance while dual-heading so I can read AMP :-)
P.s. 3DMark benchmarks your video performance for a standalone situation. Unless it now emulates Network FPS as well, it's not going to be representative for a MMOG :-)

I had understood there were issues with 8800's and Vanguard but my main concern is if there is something wrong with the card. I have learned in my readings this morning I may have to use the non blue PCIE slot when only running 1 card with dual gpus... so many tweaks I need to try when I get home...
I did however run Vanguard last night at highest quality and it ran nicely just a little stutter here and there…
Still have my 7900 as a back up.

One odd thing about Vanguard, I played the game quite awhile on a system with an Nvidia 6600 based gfx card and it was terribly slow at 1024X768 using high performance settings so after one of many crash I bumped it up to 1280X800 I think with optimal or median settings and sure enough my performance doubled. Go figuire. The 6600 is PCIe but only had 128 MB of ram so assumed I needed to go with very conservative settings but upping them cut the crashes and increased playability so needless to say this game seems to have a good many quirks.

Well, it's not helping Hawky with his Benchmark stats (you statistics obsessed Yanks!) but on the performance side of Vanguard, there's been some funky stuff going on.
With any Nvidia card it's currently better to leave Tone Mapping off.
With my 7900 GTX I get better performance with HDR on than off and you really should check your settings after every patch / update as my settings always revert to Anisotropy at 16X.
That one is the real bad ass performance hog. Turning it off has no visible quality reduction, for me at least.

Can I get a WOOT!!!
There is an option in my BIOS on the MB that is PEG settings you can disable it or move it up to fastest setting. I went fastest first and it tanked... disabled it and received a 2100 point increase on my 3Dmark 06 score! To a total of 7400!!! Wow I was happy with one card I benched higher then when I ran 2 7900gtx 512s in SLI mode. I loaded Vanguard and ran it in highest settings on 1600x1200 and it was flawless... and a beautiful world. The immersion quality went up exponentially. So in conclusion axe the PEG in your bios if you have it.

Ok...I have very limited knowledge of comps but how could I do this on mine. I currently have a GeForce 6600 GT...most games it runs great...CoH...WoW (had limited lag) but on Vanguard it was pretty slow. Jumpy graphics and stutters were frequent on optimal settings and higher. I went to low and it got better.
Now I am playing LotRO and the game runs great expect for some minor stutters but I believe (if I remember correctly) that I dont have the game on max settings. So could anyone tell me how I could do this (above) so I might be able to play this game maxed out. I have to believe my comp can do it. Not sure if this helps any but here is what I am sporting:
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2600+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.9GHz
Memory: 1280MB RAM
Hard Drive: 80 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT
oh and Windows XP SP2.
I dont know how to do the benchmark thing that Hawk did...is there a way to do that also. Thanks in advance.

How I did it, and keep in mind its Motherboard Specific, I hit the del key on boot up to enter the bios, its going to be different depending on your bios but you will search for a setting labelled PEG setting on my board its under PCIe frequency. My friend’s board did not have the feature even after he flashed and updated his bios, so if you don't see it it’s not going to be a factor. As for the benchmarking I use http://www.futuremark.com/products/3dmark06/ you can get a trial download that will test your machine the scores for your rig specs will be in the 2k range give or take 500 points, that’s a guess but its a ballpark so don't be alarmed if it is below 3k you will be in the right range.
Hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks, I ran that test and my benchmark was a dismal 1063. Damn, I was watching the test run and I was getting 3 FPS on most of them, on the canyon demo I was getting 0. I just guess that since my computer is about 1 1/2 years old that any games released now just cant go on best settings.
I could run CoH and WoW fine but those games are older, Vanguard was sketchy and LotRO has skips in open terrain, bad moments in major towns.
I checked for BIOS and as far as I could tell I am unable to do that. I need to figure out how to make this better till I can afford a better graphics card. Im running a state of the art 2 years ago card...sweet!

Questions:
AGP or PCIE on the Board? This may limit your upgrade on the video card somewhat.
On the canyon demo I get 0 or 1 FPS as well most do, it’s a CPU test no so much a display test.
I played LOTRO as well but at the time I was using a 7900 gtx 512 and it was able to spec max in settings and run smoothly. Each series of graphic card for NVIDIA uses different architecture and chip sets, you should see a jump in points by moving to the 7 series fro the six and if your board is SLI you should be able to equip it with 2 cards that are relatively cheap and work fine with most games. I opted for the 880 series due to the DX10 compatibility, if you plan on Vista in the future you may just want to wait you will have more options by the end of the year, and if you have an AGP slot and not a PCIE and do not want to upgrade the whole rig there was some talk of the 7900 coming out in AGP. Good luck.

AGP 8X...If that makes sense but from my info section for graphics that is what is says at least. I guess that I am just going to have to play w/ the in-game settings to get it to work a little better. Its not that bad just rather it run as smooth as possible, especialy when I am in instances or just out killing...I died yesterday when I fell into a mob, had too much lag. Couldnt recoop and run, or even fight back.
And I did hear from various sources that if your going to get Vista best to wait a year, upgrade your comp or get a new/stronger system. Sounds like though I am just going to have to wait till I can afford to do some modifications. Thanks for all the help Hawk.

I think this is your best option at this time and it will get you through a year or two of gaming before you have to upgrade everything for vista... there is an ATI card that is about 30 bucks more but it only has 16 pixel pipelines this card has 24 and with the architecture of the AGP and the Nvidia chipset my preference would be the linked card above. Good luck.

Thanks Hawk, when I finally get the funds I will definitely look into this.
