GIven the extreme short-notice, I'm very much afraid this is Sigil's reaction to the fallout they got about the Hot Fix. That admittedly wasn't handled very well. The announcement about it should've been not in some Support Forum, but on the announcement/status page in the launcher, preferably with link to the Support Forums for further details.
What I'm afraid of is that this is over-reacting and will lead the community to expect, then demand double-xp weekends for every hurdle Vanguard experiences.
I'd much rather they'd make a post saying they're streamlining their emergency hot-fix information process so that there will not be nice soothing green letters saying "All servers are up" on my launcher when in fact all servers are down.
The announcement page in the launcher comes from Sony stations, not the game servers and there's really no reason either Customer support or Community support can't update that page.
Sorry, occupational hazard rant there :-)
Anyway, Sigil should try to keep a frimer backbone and not throw double-xp weekends at the communicty at every spat. It's Vanguard, not Bloody Guild Wars!

I should be nice and follow up on this myself :-)
Apparently, and this is as much conjecture as my first post afaik, the reason for all this is that Sony made a mistake in an update announcement and that Sigil is playing nice by allowing it.
Not sure where it comes from as the Community Reps who make those updates are Sigil employee's for so far as I've seen. But this seems to be the established "Truth" of what went down.
Yes, lots of ifs and maybe's :-)
Still means they have to clean up their communications act.

Looks like Brad has been posting a lot at the Fires of Heaven site lately. Could be it's for no other reason than what he claims.

Quite frankly, no BSing around, it's a preemptive attempt at giving players who have less time to play a boost and to give people something to look forward to and to keep subscribing. We want to do things that encourage people to keep subscribing. That said, I think it can be taken too far and it also allows people who already play a lot to advance that much more quickly. It definitely could be taken too far which is something we're aware of. |

Nice find!
I like this comment:
| QUOTE | | Why not just borrow rest xp from EQ2/WoW instead? |
for two reasons:
A) I liked that system in EQ2 a lot.
B) it reminds me that this is what the not-yet-working Fellowship system was supposed to tackle.
Odd then that Brad doesn't mention the double XP weekends as being a stop-gap for that. His post is more of the non-committal I don't really know the answer but I realize we should've given one variety.
The rest system from EQ2 and later WOW strikes me as more foolproof than the Fellowsip system I think. Also a lot less open for Power Level Service* abuse. /me eagerly awaits the arrival of new and intruiging Goooooogle ads :-)
Oh well. There could be many reasons or just one, the accidental one being a very plausible one actually. :-)
