Over the weekend diplomacy and adventuring were blurring quite a bit. I have done two extremely cool quests.
First quest was handed to me in Raia Village, a small outpost west of Khal. I was supposed to have a word with a local bandits leader. Of course the guy was not just standing in the open. Up on the mountain he had a beautiful palace with a stone wall and many, many guards. So I had to use my fighting skills to get to him. Fortunately I was tough enough. I finally reached him and did the parley. But that was not the end of it. The diplomacy quest line turned into an adventuring quest where I had to follow one of his employees through the camp and eventually I had to push him off the mountain. Very rewarding!
(On a side note, kuodes to the devs! They made this whole mountain bandit palace for just two simple quests. A lot of detailed work went into such a minor area that 90% of the players will probably never see.)
The second quest was an tough adventuring quest. I had to look for a gnome's lost daughter. We found her at the end of a valley filled with disgruntled ghosts. It was quite a fight to get to her. But of course she turned out to be a teenager with her own will. See refused to be rescued, and some serious diplomacy was needed to convince her otherwise. I threw all my Raki charm in the fight, but she didn't budge. (The ghosts were lvl 12-13 3dots, her diplomacy lvl was 100.) I will definately come back to convince her to come home.
So what is my point? I love this game! They cleverly intertwined the two spheres of adventuring and diplomacy. It makes it so worth to make sure you develop in all spheres.

Oooh, that sounds so cool :-)
It reminds me of one of the old 80's PC Adventure game classics from Sierra; Hero's Quest which was later renamed to Quest for Glory.
You had the three classes of Warrior, Rogue and Mage but you could train the skills and abilities of all of the classes and all puzzles, except very obvious profession quests, had three or sometimes more different possible solutions. For years and years it really was the closest thing to a P&P RPG on the pc. All the others would focus on combat, combat combat.
It's taken the Games Industry 20 years to do it, but I think they finally managed to bring back the same sense of 'magic' that that game gave me. And I'm so grateful to Sigil for it.
By the way, did you know I got turned into a rat for a while the other day? I was spying on the enemy and their mages caught me. I then escaped and could spy out several area's of the town I hadn't been able to previously :-)

Ooo yes and brings back memmories of Legends of Kyrandia (voiced by Patrick Seward) and Betrayal at Krondor. The XP this weekend did make adventuring very attractive but also managed to enjoy a bit of Diplomacy, harvesting, and crafting. I just can't fathom how anyone could get bored with this game. Then again even after 2 years in Everquest I still find I am just getting to some of the meat of that game. :)

I don't have much to add to this discussion as I haven't gotten into diplomacy much at all... but just wanted to say Phedre, I enjoy reading about your adventures, travels in-game... keep it coming!

I'm glad it's over to. I didn't purposly try to avoid gaining xp this weekend, but my trek to Qalia and needing to complete all the lowbie quests I saw came in handy for avoiding the kill xp overload. :)

Uh, yup. See, I really wasn't with it this morning. I should have just stayed in bed...
