Travel vs. Class

Okay I know this is a long way away, but I'm bored, so roll with it.

When I was playing WoW, I wanted to play the elven lands but not an elf. So I started a human and ran the long and dangerous road to begin with the elves. I only died a few time on the way too. I know some of us have talked about joining up in game once it goes live. I know that travel will be a big deal in this game. If everyone decides on a continent that doesn't have the class you prefer, will you make the long journey or settle for another class?
If it's difficult but possible, I'm just crazy enough to spend a day or so running and cussing, just to play the class I want with the people I want. Where does everyone else stand on this?

RE: Travel vs. Class

I'm the same pretty much. I actually rather like wandering around aimlessly (or not so aimlessly if I'm tryin to meet up with someone) as a low level. I guess I get a bit if excitement from trying to infiltrate areas that I shouldn't be in yet and will most likely become some baddies main course. It's like the developers telling me no I can't go there yet, and of course telling me no only makes me want to try harder.

But yeah, on topic I've done it both ways, started a class I'd rather not play just to start in the same area as well as done what I wanted and spent some time travelling as a lowbie.

RE: Travel vs. Class

I actually have a bit of insight for a change. You can travel from continent to continent by boat/ferry. So your starting continent does not necessary lock you in. And you can do this at a pretty early level. I am not sure if all trainer are in all areas. So that might be a problem, but I am not sure. I quess you'll be able to find them anywhere. Otherwise travelling cross continent has major drawbacks.

Now having said that, the different continents have entirely different environments. I have the feeling they are almost three different games in one. And based on that I might like to play in one area more than in the others.

From an RP point of view it is however again very cool to cross continents and be the odd one out in a group. Either way I have no trouble at all to spend a day or two to find you, and another day or two to travel back home if I get homesick.

RE: Travel vs. Class

YEA, I like to wander and solo too so good to find a cluster of kindered souls. In WOW I remember riding Griffons to get around some of those issues. Man the time is coming all too quickly before Vanguard is released and I need to do my homework. Oh boy sounds like my guildies and our friends will need to meet in the middle about locale..... It is times like this a weaker part of me wishes for that publishers clearing house van to pull up with a fat check so I can retire early and become some horrible figuire like that guy in the make love not warcraft episode of south park and be completely worthless and play the game all day. Ok nice fantasy but I know that would not be entirely good. hee hee Thanks for giving me some pause for thought. This was a really great topic to start!

RE: Travel vs. Class

I actually enjoy a challenging run at low levels. I go off and explore all the time anyway, having a determined destination doesn't sound bad at all.

In WoW I made the mad dash from the NE tree to Stormwind at level 13. I was meeting up with the boyfriend to do some hunting. It actually was quite fun. And I love the since of accomplishment when I actually reached StormWind.
