I've spent the last couple of days reading everything I could get my hands on about the crafting system in Vanguard. I do have to say there was a lot of info about the system out there. The depth they went into for this system amazes me. You can read all sorts of fun little facts about the crafting system here.
So what are your opinions about this? Do you think this will be the crafting system people have dreamed of? And do you think that there will be many people out there who try to max out their character in adventuring and crafting?

Sweet. Time to revive my outfitter skills. I used to be a master tailor in DAoC, and although that was fun, it was alot of watching a progress bar. The plans for VAnguard sound a lot more interesting.
Especially the idea that I'll have to go down a dungeon to make certain items sound great. Also the fact that my outfits won't look like everybody else's make it really worthwhile. I will definately be busy on this.
From the sound of it, I might even be able to be a pure crafter and still have fun. I will definately try to be a pure crafter. Of course it will depend if I can find a a group of people to work with. Which is only better. I hope it promotes a strong (and fun) guild mentality.

I don't think you'll have a problem finding groups of crafters to work with. From everything I read it sounds like this is going to be crafting heaven. Of course the last time I crafted anything was UO, and well, that wasn't enjoyable at all to me.

I actually hope it is not really crafters heaven. I sort of hope it will be adventurers heaven for somebody that likes to craft too. Wandering the world and having adventures is what I want. Not as a sword wielding warrior, but as a scissors holding damsel.

I think you will find your adventures. But you may want to make some friends that wield swords, some of the places look a bit scary to go in w/ just scissors.

Oh yeah, I am counting on that. That is exactly why I am so excited about this. I will have my knights that will go to the end of the world for me. And as reward I'll make them the toughest armor around.

Well, Phedre the outfitter, looks like you'll be getting some orders from blackphoenix the blacksmith for leather strapping to hold my armor pieces together. :)
If they do everything they say in the FAQ there, it's gonna be awesome. I can't wait to open my blacksmith shop and start building swords and plate armor for adventurers.

I was sitting here thinking and just had a terrible thought. You know all those kiddies that beg beg beg for stuff? I can see them doin the same only at the shops. I hope they implement an "eject from store" button over the head of patrons when they enter my forge. Then again, what would a fantasy world be without beggers.
As for people I know, I might be persuaded to provide gear at a bit of a discount. ;)

I would certainly hope that we have the option to "ban" people from our shops (your shops *grin*). It seems that to decrease harassing it would be necessary.

I would certainly hope that we have the option to "ban" people from our shops (your shops *grin*). It seems that to decrease harassing it would be necessary. |

lol, that could be a quest in the game.
Civil Unrest.
Quite a few of the locals recently have become unsatisfied with the results of their adventures abroad and have come to you with pleas for free equipment. As much as you would like to provide hand outs, you turn them away unless they are willing to pay the coin to cover your expenses and a little extra for yourself. Upset by your lack of so called "good will," they rally against you in an attempt to destroy and pillage all that you have worked so hard to build.
Gather a party of your fellow craftsmen and defend your shop from the advancing noobs.
Reward:
1500 experience
Loot from the noobs

That is a very cool idea indeed! Although the noobs probably don't have much on them. But themercenary will help out anyway out of pure selflessness.And 10% discount. As long as stock lasts. Can not be used with other offers. Residency restrictions apply. Void where prohibited

I'm liking the sounds of being a merc for the artisans. Oh yes, I can see my name spread far and wide as a defender of those that make things. Hum....
Of course I do read the fine print. And I think some negotions should be started, b/c the following will not do *grin*

Bah! I thought I could fool a simple hired hand. Where are the days that I could get away with stuff like this? I blaim the government. Why do fighters have to learn to read and write these days?

We had to learn!!! All the crafters decided to throw in fine print and contracts.... we have a union now you know.

I'm all for adventuring and crafting. If I can't find a group to go out and kill stuff, I'll just go in my cubby hole and make stuff. There will always be stuff to do in Vanguard.
If yee be needing a crafter, look Bylie up. If yee have the materials, I'll do it for free (donations are welcome though) lol. Anything to get me more exp is a good thing. So lets all start a group and get to crafting.
